BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor dropped a two-goal decision to No. 17 University of St. Thomas (Texas) Sunday night in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 1-2-1 on the season while the Celts moved to 4-0 on the year.
UMHB stifled the Celts offense for most of the first half, allowing 11 total shots with six on frame. Ethan Hilliard made four first-half saves with Chase Duhon adding one team save to keep the shutout. UMHB held the Celts scoreless until the 44th minute when Taty Aleman used a ricochet to score in the bottom left corner and give the Celts a 1-0 lead.
St. Thomas used an early second-half goal to widen the gap when Leonardo Mansur Scarparo scored on an assist from Ian Alvarez in the 48th minute. UMHB shutout the Celts the rest of the way, allowing eight second-half shots with Hilliard making three saves.
Seven Crusaders combined for seven shots in the contest while Chase Cherrington, Xjavier Martinez and Keven Daniel all put shots on frame. St. Thomas totaled 19 total shots in the contest with 10 total on frame. The Celts had a pair of athletes with five shots each while eight additional athletes contributed.
Goalkeeper Ethan Hilliard totaled seven saves in the contest for the Cru while St. Thomas's Gayoso recorded three. Both teams took three corner kicks with 25 total fouls called.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, September 14th in a home contest against Austin College. The Cru will kick off against the Roos at 7:30 p.m.
