GEORGETOWN, Texas – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer drew a 2-2 tie against Southwestern Wednesday evening in Georgetown. This takes the Cru's record to 10-1-3, while the Pirates move to 11-0-3 on the season.
The Pirates jumped into action early, taking six shots in the first 23 minutes, with one of them on goal denied by Cru goalkeeper
Brett LaPorte.
Karsen Macias added a shot in the 24
th minute, which he followed up with a 30
th minute shot finding the back of the net off an assist from
Owen Pryor to give UMHB the 1-0 lead. This was the first goal Southwestern has given up since September 20
th. LaPorte added two more saves to keep the Pirates scoreless in the first half.
Aidan Aguilera-Reeves and
Karsen Macias opened the second half with a shot on goal each, but were both denied by the Pirates.
Brett LaPorte put up two more saves but Southwestern answered with the equalizer in the 69
th minute to knot the game 1-1. The Pirates responded again, scoring the go-ahead goal with eight minutes remaining to take the 2-1 lead. The Cru didn't take no for an answer, adding the equalizing goal from
Yannis Benae in the 88
th minute with assists from
Billy Yonce and
Evan Ruiz. This score sealed the 2-2 draw.
Karsen Macias and
Aidan Aguilera-Reeves each added three shots on the night to lead the Cru. Macias and
Yannis Benae tallied two shots on goal each.
Brett LaPorte played all 90 minutes in the net, putting up seven saves in the match.
