JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Belhaven University in a 2-1 matchup Thursday in Jackson. The win improved the Cru to 8-1-2 on the season while the Blazers moved to 5-3-3.
Avery Anders opened the contest with a Blazers goal, scoring in the second minute off a pass from Adrian Sanchez. Belhaven held that lead until the final minute of the first half when
Billy Yonce finished off a pass from Logan Thompson to knot the contest at one.
The tie remained until the 53
rd minute when
Peyton Hoyt scored off an assist from
Zachary Paclibar, giving the Cru the 2-1 lead. UMHB held the high ground through the remainder of competition, earning the win.
UMHB totaled 12 shots in the contest, putting eight on frame. Hoyt and Yonce led the Cru with two shots on goal each while
Evan Ruiz and
Yannis Benae each added two shots.
Brett LaPorte earned the win in the net, making four saves with one goal allowed in the full 90-minute contest.
The Cru returns to action on Saturday, October 4
th in a 7:30 p.m. contest at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
