MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a pair of sweeps over Huntingdon College Friday afternoon in Montgomery, improving the Cru to 12-4 on the season.
UMHB opened the first match with four unanswered points before the Hawks got on the board. Huntingdon cut the gap down to two but UMHB continued to push, going ahead by seven at the 17-10 mark and closing the set with a 6-1 run for a 25-14 win.
Set two played back-and-forth with the score tied at 7-7. Huntingdon took a three-point lead at 10-7 before the Cru scored four straight to climb back on top. The Hawks tied the set again at 12 but UMHB pushed three more points for a 15-12 margin. The Cru pulled away with a four-point run to go up 21-18 and closed the set with a 25-18 victory.
UMHB opened the third set with a 4-0 run and extended the gap with seven straight, taking a 13-3 lead. UMHB cruised from there, earning a 25-11 win to sweep the first match 3-0.
Peyton Sedlacek led the Cru with seven kills while
Dravyn Hurd added six. UMHB hit 33 kills on 99 attempts for a .242 average.
Kendall Harrington anchored the Cru offense with 20 assists and served a team-high three aces.
Harrington and Sedlacek each led the Cru with a team-high eight digs while
Angie Garcia added seven.
UMHB used a five-point run in set one of match two to take a four-point lead over the Hawks. Huntingdon cut the series before the Cru constructed a 12-1 run to take a 24-10 lead. The Hawks put up two but Sedlacek hit a kill for the final point, giving UMHB a 25-12 win.
Set two played point-for-point before the Cru went on a seven-point streak.
Baylee Mobley served six of those points with a pair of kills from
Cameron Pesek. The Hawks were unable to recover, giving the Cru a 25-15 win.
The Cru took a 10-6 lead in the third but Huntingdon was persistent, continuing to fight back. The Cru held a 24-20 lead but the Hawks scored three to force match-point at 24-23. Pesek struck again, hitting the final kill for a 25-23 Cru win.
Dravyn Hurd led UMHB with 13 kills in that match, followed by Pesek with 10. Harrington totaled 33 assists with the Cru serving six total aces. Defensively,
Angie Garcia tallied 15 digs followed by Sedlacek with 10.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, October 7
th in a 6 p.m. contest at Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
