REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team fell to University of Redlands Saturday evening in California.
Redlands jumped to an early 5-2 lead and held the high ground through the first frame. The Bulldogs went ahead by as many as six points, going into the second quarter with a 16-13 margin.
UMHB pulled within two at the 19-21 mark in the second quarter but the Bulldogs answered with five consecutive points to lengthen the gap to five. The Cru fought back, pulling within two before a Bulldog three-pointer put Redlands back up by five. The Bulldogs added one more layup in the frame, taking a 31-24 lead into halftime.
Katelen Brooks led the Cru with nine points in the first half.
Josie Bruder added a team-high four rebounds while several Crusaders added one assist and one steal each.
UMHB kept the contest close toward the end of the third quarter but the Bulldogs pulled away early in the fourth. The Bulldogs did not let up on offense, cruising to a 77-55 win.
Brooks led the Cru with 15 points while
Amillion Fowler added 13. Fowler was also the rebound leader with six while Kylee Atkinson added two assists and Brooks tallied three steals.
UMHB closes the California trip with an 11 a.m. (PT) contest at University of La Verne on Monday.
