LA VERNE, Calif. – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball earned a 78-65 road win against La Verne on Monday afternoon. With this win the Cru's record improves to 1-4 while the Leopards fall to 1-3.
Amillion Fowler got on the board first for the Cru with a three-pointer, just seconds into the game. UMHB gained an eight-point lead after a Josie Bruder three put the Cru up 18-10 with 3:09 left in the first quarter. The frame ended with two made free throws from Bruder, closing out the first quarter with UMHB leading 20-16. The Leopards took a 27-25 lead early in the second quarter. La Verne went up by eight, but the Cru closed the gap, ending the half with a score of 38-35.
UMHB responded with 3:22 left in the third with an Amari Welch layup to knot the game at 50. Welch went on to add another layup and a three-pointer to take a 55-50 lead. Welch tallied another three, followed by Mia Lozoya who sunk a layup to move the score 62-55. The Cru gave up just 10 more points, securing the 78-65 victory.
Josie Bruder led the Cru with 24 points along with seven rebounds. Amillion Fowler followed with 17 points and six assists. UMHB totaled 13 steals with four from Katelen Brooks and three from Amillion Fowler.
UMHB returns to action at home on Saturday, November 22nd in a 1:00pm contest against Southwestern.
