BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team earned a pair of wins Friday at Dee Dillon Field, earning a 2-0 and 9-0 win over the Dallas Christian College Crusaders. The wins improved the Cru to 6-2 on the season.
UMHB put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Shorey Nguyen reached on an error and then got into a rundown, allowing
Lindsey Polleschultz to score from third.
Bailey Frenzel followed that with a sacrifice to the second baseman, scoring Nguyen for the 2-0 margin.
Dallas Christian put a runner on in the second, but Allison Dafoe forced a groundout to hold the shutout. Dafoe followed with perfect frames in the third, fourth and fifth to keep blanks on the board.
Beth Ann Johnston finished the game for the Cru, making her first collegiate appearance. Johnston pitched the sixth and seventh innings with the lone base runner coming off an error by an infielder.
Dafoe earned the win for the Cru, pitching five innings with just three hits allowed. Dafoe faced 18 batters in her outing. Johnston earned the save and did not give up a single hit in her appearance.
Five different Crusaders recorded hits for UMHB while Polleschultz and Nguyen each added runs. UMHB totaled two runs on five hits with one error while the Cru had three hits and one error.
Lindsey Polleschultz opened the first inning of game two with a run, scoring on a wild pitch.
Chloee Miller pitched a perfect frame in the second to keep the one-run lead. UMHB put runners in scoring position in the bottom of that frame, but Dallas Christian got out of the jam. Miller threw another perfect inning in the third before the Cru added one more run, scoring
Sydney Bearden off an RBI double from
Kylie Hoggatt for a 2-0 lead.
UMHB added two more runs in the fourth with bases-loaded walks earned by Polleschultz and Frenzel. The Cru added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth of back-to-back singles from
Brielle Moreland and
Jordan Iverson.
Shorey Nguyen sealed the win for the Cru with an inside-the-park home run, tallying three RBI for the 9-0 win.
Nguyen, Hoggatt, Moreland and Iverson led the Cru with two hits, while Polleschultz and Moreland scored a team-high two runs each. Nguyen was also the leader with three RBI.
Chloee Miller earned the win in the circle, pitching five innings with one hit allowed. Miller also struck out five in her outing.
