ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team lost two games to Hardin-Simmons in a doubleheader Monday in Abilene. The losses move the Cru's record to 18-10 on the season with a 3-5 mark in American Southwest Conference action. The Cowgirls improve to 19-4 on the season and 3-1 in league play.
Bailey Frenzel started off game one with an RBI single to score
Lindsey Polleschultz after she reached on a single, putting the Cru up 1-0. The Cowgirls responded in the bottom of the third with three RBI singles to take a 3-1 lead. HSU later extended its lead to 5-1 after plating runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Cru was unable to rally back, falling to the Cowgirls in game one.
Three Crusaders tallied one hit each.
Bailey Frenzel had one RBI and one stolen base, while
Lindsey Polleschultz had one run scored, and
Shorey Nguyen added a stolen base. Allison Dafoe earned the start in the circle, going 2.2 innings.
Ella Gamblin came in for relief, throwing one complete inning, giving up just one hit.
Bryton Wright closed it out for the Cru, going 2.1 innings allowing three hits with one strikeout.
Both teams went scoreless through the first two innings of game two. The Cru broke through in the third after a
Lindsey Polleschultz single followed by
Shorey Nguyen who reached first on a fielder's choice. Two consecutive wild pitches allowed Polleschultz to score, giving the Cru the 1-0 lead. A
Kyler Sanders sacrifice fly in the fifth inning allowed
Taylor Henken to score, extending UMHB's lead 2-0. The Cowgirls answered in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game at 2-2 off a two-RBI single. At the end of seven innings, the score was still knotted at two, forcing extra innings. After scoreless eighth and ninth frames, the Cowgirls took the walk-off 3-2 win in the tenth with an RBI single.
Lindsey Polleschultz and
Taylor Henken combined for four of the Cru's six hits and each scored one run, while
Kyler Sanders had one RBI.
Eileigh Whyte pitched a complete 10-inning game with five strikeouts, walking just one and allowing six hits.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, April 12
th in a 1:00 pm doubleheader against UT Dallas at Dee Dillon Field in Belton. The Cru will also honor the 2025 senior class after the games.
