MARSHALL, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped its second game of the ASC Championship Tournament to Hardin-Simmons University Friday afternoon in Marshall. This 12-5 loss closes out the season for the Cru, while the Cowboys move on in tournament play.

The Cowboys struck first with a two-run first inning. UMHB quickly turned it around, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the frame.
Carson Hagan and
Cameron Talburt led off with back-to-back singles, followed by an RBI double from
Riley Bender to score Hagan.
Shane Melick followed with a ground-out to first that resulted in Talburt scoring.
Alejandro Sanchez III hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing
Riley Bender to score. The Cru kept the lead until the top of the third when the Cowboys added two more runs on four hits, making it a 4-3 ballgame. HSU extended the lead to 5-3 in the fourth, and then again to 6-3 in the fifth. UMHB put up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Melick RBI fielder's choice to score Hagan and a sacrifice fly from
Austin Birkhoff, scoring Talburt. The 6-5 score held until the Cowboys had a powerful ninth inning, plating six runs to take the 12-5 win.

James McGlumphy earned the start on the mound throwing 5.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Jacob Haynes and
Isaac Brann closed out the match-up, throwing for a combined five strikeouts.

This closes out the season for the Crusaders who finished with a 24-18 record on the year and a 9-7 mark in American Southwest Conference action.
