BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team cruised past the College of Biblical Studies in a commanding win Wednesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 11-5 on the season.
UMHB jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first half, led by
Zach Engels with nine points. The Cru extended the gap to double digits off a
Daniel Hutson jumper at 11:24 and extended the lead to 20 off a
Zach May three-pointer at 8:08. The Cru continued momentum, limiting the Ambassadors to 19 first-half points on the way to a 34-point halftime lead.
Engels led the Cru with 17 first-half points while
Cam Stinson and May each added six. UMHB shot 40 percent in field goals, with a 33.3 percent showing beyond the arc and a 78.6 performance in foul shots in the first frame.
The Cru continued to hold a substantial lead, hitting 70 points off a
Grant Jessen three-pointer at 14:33.
Jeremiah Parquet hit a free throw at 5:03 to give UMHB 90 points and the Cru tacked on 13 more in the final five minutes for the 103-62 win.
Zach Engels finished with 21 points, followed by
Elijah Lawrence with 14 and
Cam Stinson with 12. Seventeen different Crusaders each recorded points in the contests.
Donta Coady led the Cru with seven rebounds, followed by
Josiah Wray and Stinson with six each. Engels also had a team-high five assists while
Trey Seigle added three steals.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, January 10
th in a 2 p.m. contest against Dallas Christian College at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
