Volleyball beats Hardin-Simmons 3-1

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team beat Hardin-Simmons University 3-1 Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 11-8 on the season and 7-2 in American Southwest Conference play while the Cowgirls fell to 10-12 overall and 4-5 in league action.
 
UMHB dominated the first set until Hardin-Simmons' Lauren Wish served seven straight points to pull the Cowgirls within two. Hardin-Simmons fought to tie the match at 17, then used a pair of service aces to gain a lead on the Cru, winning the first set 25-22. The Cru took another early lead in the second set, grabbing a 25-17 win to even the match at 1-1 and taking the 3-1 victory with 25-17, 25-12 consecutive set wins.
 
Shelby Russell led the Cru with 14 kills while Natasha Evans and Abby Voskuil each added three. Shelby Prather led the Cru with 44 kills while UMHB hit .238 in the match. UMHB recorded five service aces, led by Russell with two. Defensively, Jordan Yates and Evans led the Cru with 15 digs while Voskuil added 13 and Prather had 11. Cheyenne Dowdey led UMHB's defense at the line, recording two solo blocks and eight block assists. UMHB totaled 50 kills on 126 total attacks with 20 errors while the Cowgirls had 34 kills on 154 total attacks with 33 errors.
  
The Cru continues play Friday, October 16th in a 2:30 p.m. match against Belhaven University at the University of Texas at Tyler.
