TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team beat the University of Texas at Tyler 3-1 Saturday morning in Tyler. The win improved the Cru to 13-8 overall and 8-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Patriots fell to 15-8 overall and 4-4 in league play.
UMHB jumped ahead early with 25-22, 25-20 set wins to grab a 2-0 lead on the Patriots. U.T.-Tyler responded, fighting in the final points of the third set and winning 30-28 before UMHB earned the win with a 25-12 fourth-set victory.
Abby Voskuil and
Natasha Evans led the Cru with 14 kills while
Shelby Russell added 12 and
Maddie Frerich had 11.
Shelby Prather led the Cru with 48 assists as UMHB hit .203 in the match. Defensively, Prather and
Jordan Yates led the Cru 15 digs while Russell and Evans each added 12. At the line,
Cheyenne Dowdey led the Cru with 11 block assists as UMHB recorded 13 blocks as a team. UMHB totaled 62 kills on 177 total attacks with 26 errors while the Patriots had 55 kills on 169 total attacks with 34 errors.
The Cru continues play Tuesday in a 6 p.m. match against McMurry University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
