BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Sul Ross State 3-0 Friday evening in Belton, improving to 15-8 on the season and 9-2 in American Southwest Conference play while the Lobos fell to 6-16 overall and 2-9 in league play.
UMHB dropped the opening point but did not trail again in the first set, using an 8-4 run to gain an advantage and taking the first set 25-14 over the Lobos. UMHB won the second set quickly, jumping out to a 4-1 lead and taking a 25-13 win for a 2-0 match advantage. The Cru then took control of the third set, winning 25-7 for the 3-0 sweep.
Shelby Russell led the Cru with 11 kills while
Abby Voskuil had 10 and
Cheyenne Dowdey added nine.
Shelby Prather led the Cru with 27 assists as UMHB hit .407 in the match. Defensively, Russell led the Cru with 10 kills followed by
Jordan Yates with nine and Voskuil with eight. Dowdey led the defense at the line, totaling two solo blocks and six block assists. UMHB totaled 43 kills on 81 total attacks with 10 errors while the Lobos had 16 kills on 74 total attacks with 13 errors.
The Cru continues play on Saturday, October 24
th in a 2 p.m. match against Howard Payne in Belton. UMHB continues the regular season Friday, October 30
th in a 3:30 p.m. match against Southwestern University in the Trinity University Invitational in San Antonio. UMHB will then play in the 2015 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the West Division, November 5
