BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Howard Payne University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 16-8 on the season and 10-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets fell to 1-19 overall and 1-11 in league play.
UMHB jumped to an early lead with a 25-12 first-set victory, then won the next two 25-9, 25-17 for a 3-0 win.
Cheyenne Dowdey led the Cru with 13 kills while
Abby Voskuil added 10,
Natasha Evans had seven and
Shelby Russell recorded seven. UMHB hit .348 in the match, anchored by
Shelby Prather with 29 assists. Defensively,
Abby Voskuil added 14 digs while Russell had 12 and Yates had 11.
Maddie Frerich led the defense at the line with three solo blocks and three block assists while Russell and
Sydney Stolz also added three block assists. UMHB totaled 11.5 blocks in the match and hit 40 kills on 89 total attacks with nine errors. The Yellow Jackets, led by Micah Cisneroz, Briana Williams and Shelbie Harry totaled 19 kills on 96 total attacks with 21 errors.
UMHB returns to act on Friday, October 30
th in a 3:30 p.m. match against Southwestern University at the Trinity University Invitational in San Antonio.
