Volleyball falls to No. 17 Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to No. 17 Southwestern University Tuesday evening in Georgetown. The loss dropped the Cru to 9-8 on the season while the Pirates improved ot 16-2.
 
UMHB fought hard in the first set, battling out the match point to a 27-25 loss before falling 25-19, 25-18 in the next two sets. Shelby Russell led the Cru with 14 kills while Natasha Evans added nine and Abby Voskuil had seven. Shelby Prather anchored the Crusader offense, recording 33 assists in the contest. Defensively, Voskuil led the Cru with 14 digs while Evans had 13 and Russell had 11. Maddie Frerich led the defense at the line, recording a team-high three blocks. UMHB totaled 42 kills on 131 total attacks with 20 errors while the Pirates had 53 kills on 129 total attacks and 13 errors.
  
The Cru continues play Friday, October 9th in a 7 p.m. match against Concordia University Texas at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
