ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team defeated McMurry University 3-1 Tuesday evening in Abilene, improving to 4-6 on the season while the War Hawks fell to 6-3.
UMHB edged the War Hawks 25-23 in the opening set before falling 21-25 in the second. The Cru then took control of the match, winning the next two sets 25-22, 25-14 for a 3-1 road win over McMurry.
Shelby Russell led the Cru with 15 kills while
Maddie Frerich and
Natasha Evans each added nine. Prather helped the Cru to a team-total 41 kills with 34 assists, adding a team-high two service aces. Defensively,
Abby Voskuil led all athletes with 22 digs while Russell and Prather each added 14.
Cheyenne Dowdey led UMHB's defense at the net, recording a match-high nine blocks. UMHB totaled 41 kills on 142 attacks with 18 errors while the War Harks recorded 51 kills on 159 total attacks with 33 errors.
UMHB returns to action this weekend hosting the American Southwest Conference Crossover I at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton. The Cru opens competition on Friday, September 25
th in a noon match against LeTourneau, then faces East Texas Baptist University at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, September 26
th UMHB will play its final match of the crossover against No. 24 U.T.-Dallas at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the ASC Crossover I is free with continuing coverage available at cruathletics.com
