ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team beat Hardin-Simmons University 3-1 Tuesday evening in Abilene. The win improved the Cru to 7-7 on the season and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Hardin-Simmons took control of the match early, winning the first set 25-19 and gaining an 18-6 lead in the second. UMHB then overcame the 12-point deficit to win the second 27-25, marking the turning point as the Cru went on to seal the match with consecutive 25-16, 25-21 set-wins.
Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 13 kills while
Shelby Russell and
Natasha Evans each added 11.
Shelby Prather led the Cru with 38 assists while Evans added nine. UMHB was also successful from the service line, delivering nine aces led by Russell with three. Defensively,
Jordan Yates led the Cru with 20 digs while Russell added 16 and Prather had 14.
Cheyenne Dowdey led UMHB's defense at the line, recording two solo blocks and nine block assists helping UMHB to 12.5 team blocks. The Cru totaled 50 kills on 145 total attacks with 23 errors while Hardin-Simmons had 46 kills on 159 total attacks with 20 errors.
