BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Hardin-Simmons University 3-0 Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 14-5 on the season and 8-2 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 10-8 overall and 6-3 in league play.
UMHB trailed early in the first set before going on a 6-1 run to gain a one-point advantage and a 7-1 run to put the Cru up seven points, earning a 25-16 first-set victory. UMHB took the next set in a similar 25-16 fashion before earning a 25-21 third-set win for the sweep.
Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 11 kills followed by
Maddie Frerich with 10.
Natasha Evans assisted 28 kills as UMHB hit .337 as a team. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 12 digs followed by
Jordan Yates with 10. UMHB totaled 38 kills on 92 attacks while the Cowgirls had 35 kills on 101 total attacks.
Frerich set a new UMHB Division III-era record for hitting percentage in the contest, recording 10 kills on 11 attacks for a .909 percentage. UMHB will return to action Friday, October 14
th in a 2:30 p.m. match against East Texas Baptist University in the ASC Crossover II on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, TX.
