BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 4 Southwestern University Wednesday evening in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 16-7 overall while the Pirates improved to 24-1.
UMHB lead for most of the first set before the Pirates used a 7-2 rally to gain a one-point advantage over UMHB. Southwestern took the first set 25-21 then followed that with a dominant opening to the second set. The Pirates led by as many as 10 points before UMHB cut the lead with a 5-1 run. Southwestern pulled away, finishing the set with a 4-1 run to take a 25-16 second-set win. Southwestern then took a 25-12 third-set victory for the 3-0 win.
Sarah Paolini led the Cru with seven kills while
Abby Voskuil,
Laryssa Wills and
Maddie Frerich each had six.
Natasha Evans recorded a team-high 25 assists as UMHB hit .127 in the match. Defensively,
Natasha Evans led with 14 digs followed by Voskuil with 11 and
Haleigh Evans with eight. Paolini and
Miranda Klein each added a team-high four blocks. UMHB totaled 30 kills with 16 errors on 110 total attacks while the Pirates had 48 kills on 114 total attacks with 11 errors.
UMHB returns to action Friday, October 21
st in a 6 p.m. match against Concordia University Texas at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
