BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball ended the conference regular season with a 3-1 win over Concordia University Texas 3-1 Friday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 17-7 on the season and 11-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tornados fell to 9-13 overall and 4-9 in league play.
Concordia Texas used a 10-6 run to gain an advantage over the Cru in the first set. UMHB cut the lead to just one at set-point but the Tornados finalized the first set with a 25-23 win. The Cru opened the second set on a 7-1 and held a commanding 13-5 advantage, evening the match at one-set each with a 25-13 win. UMHB then took the next sets 25-14, 25-20 for the 3-1 victory.
Maddie Frerich led the Cru with 14 kills while
Abby Voskuil added 12 and
Madison McVay added eight. UMHB hit .276 in the match with setter
Natasha Evans recorded 45 assists. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 28 digs followed by Klein with 13 and
Natasha Evans with 11. Frerich was UMHB's leading blocker with two solo blocks and two block assist as UMHB recorded a team-total of seven blocks. The Cru hit 52 kills on 134 attacks while the Tornados had 44 kills on 163 attacks for a .080 percentage.
UMHB returns to action Friday, October 28
th in a 6:30 p.m. match against UMass-Boston at Trinity University in San Antonio. With the West Division Championship, UMHB earned the right to host the 2016 ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament. The tournament will be held in November 3
