Volleyball earns come-from-behind win over McMurry

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team overcame a two-set deficit to take a 3-2 win over McMurry University Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 11-5 on the season while the War Hawks fell to 11-6.
 
McMurry took an early lead, winning the first two sets 25-22, 25-23. UMHB responded with a commanding 25-15 third-set win and took the fourth set 25-19 to even the match at two sets each. UMHB opened the fifth set on a 3-1 run with an 8-2 lead at the switch. The Cru then went on a 5-1 run to take a 13-3 lead over the War Hawks, winning the fifth set 15-4 for a 3-2 UMHB win.
 
Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 19 kills followed by Maddie Frerich with 15. Natasha Evans had a match-high 44 assists as UMHB hit .250 in the contest. Voskuil also led the Cru with 21 digs followed by Miranda Klein with 17 and Haleigh Evans with 15. Frerich was also the Cru's leading blocker, recording two solo blocks and five block assists as UMHB totaled 12 team blocks. The Cru totaled 63 kills on 164 attacks with 22 errors while the War Hawks had 49 kills and 21 errors on 159 total attacks for a .176 hitting percentage.


UMHB continues play Friday, October 7th in a 5 p.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
