SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's volleyball team dropped the final day of competition at the Trinity University Invitational, falling 3-1 to Whitworth University and 3-0 to tournament-host Trinity. UMHB moved to 5-3 on the season after the losses.
The Cru opened the day dropping the first set to Whitworth University 25-12. UMHB then took the second set 25-20 before narrowly missing a third-set victory, falling 26-24 to the Pirates. Whitworth then secured the 3-1 victory with a 25-15 fourth-set win.
Abby Voskuil led the Cru with 10 kills followed by
Sydney Stolz and
Sarah Paolini with nine.
Natasha Evans assisted 35 kills for UMHB as the Cru hit .151 in the match. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led UMHB with 17 kills with
Miranda Klein and Voskuil each adding 12. UMHB totaled 41 kills on 146 attacks while the Pirates had 54 kills on 144 attacks for a .285 hitting percentage.
Trinity University took the second match of the day over UMHB, beating the Cru 25-21, 25-18, 25-22.
Maddie Frerich led the Cru with eight kills while Paolini and Klein each added six. Evans assisted 25 kills as the Cur hit .176 in the match. Klein had a match-high four service aces as the Cru recorded seven as a team. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 16 digs followed by Voskuil with 10. UMHB totaled 31 kills on 102 total attacks while Trinity had 46 kills on 110 total attacks.
Abby Voskuil represented UMHB on the 2016 Trinity University Invitational All-Tournament Team. The Cru returns to action Friday, September 16
th in the 2016 home opener against Howard Payne University at 6 p.m. at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
