BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Howard Payne University 3-0 Friday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 6-3 on the season and opened them at 1-0 in American Southwest Conference play while the Yellow Jackets moved to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in ASC action.
UMHB jumped to an early 5-1 lead in the first set and didn't look back, taking the opening-set 25-11. Howard Payne responded with a strong second set but UMHB took the next to 25-20, 25-22 for the three-set sweep.
Sarah Paolini and
Abby Voskuil led the Cru with nine kills each while
Natasha Evans and
Sydney Stolz each added four. UMHB hit .153 in the contest as Evans recorded a team-high 15 assists. Defensively,
Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 13 digs followed by
Natasha Evans with 11 and
Abby Voskuil with 10.
Maddie Frerich led defensive efforts at the net, recording two solo blocks and four block assists. UMHB totaled 33 kills on 118 total attacks while the Yellow Jackets had 24 kills on 103 attacks for a .068 hitting percentage.
The Cru returns to action Saturday, September 17
th in a 2 p.m. match against Sul Ross State University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
