BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team beat Sul Ross State University 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in league play.
The Cru took an early 25-11 first-set win over the Lobos before Sul Ross mounted a comeback 27-25 win in the second set. With the match evened at 1-1, UMHB took the next two sets in order 25-19, 25-15 for the 3-1 win. Sarah Paolini and Maddie Frerich led the Cru with 10 kills each while Abby Voskuil added nine. UMHB hit .244 in the match, totaling 44 kills on 131 total attacks. Natasha Evans led the Cru with 30 assists while Haleigh Evans served five aces. Defensively, Haleigh Evans led the Cru with 27 kills followed by Natasha Evans and Voskuil with 13 each. Sul Ross State's Brittany Serrano led with 11 kills. The Lobos totaled 38 kills on 144 total attacks for a .111 average.
UMHB returns to action Tuesday, September 20th in a 6 p.m. match at McMurry University in Abilene.
