Volleyball sweeps McMurry in battle of division co-leaders

Cru takes over sole possession of ASC West Division lead with victory

Abilene, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team dominated at the net and the Cru rolled to a 3-0 sweep of McMurry University Tuesday night in Abilene. UMHB improves to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The win also gives the Cru sole possession of first place in the ASC West Division. The War Hawks fall to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the ASC with the loss.

 

The Cru rolled to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-18 victory over McMurry. UMHB never trailed by more than three points in any set and posted 11 total team blocks while holding the War Hawks to a .044 hitting percentage in the match. The Cru hit .141 as a team and took advantage of six service aces and eight McMurry ball handling errors.

 

Abby Voskuil led a balanced UMHB attack with six kills and Miranda Klein added five more. Natasha Evans topped the Cru with 16 assists and seven digs. Sydney Stoltz had six total blocks and four other players had two or more for UMHB in the victory.

 

Jasmine Jones led McMurry with a match-high seven kills. Madison Fatheree recorded 12 assists and Odalis Rodriguez added 13 digs for the War Hawks.

 

UMHB will return to action with the first ASC Crossover Tournament of the season this weekend in Austin. The Cru will open the weekend with a 5:00 PM match against Belhaven University on Friday.
