ABILENE, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon in Abilene. The win improved the Cru to 13-2 on the season and 10-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowboys fell to 5-5-2 overall and 4-4-2 in league play. UMHB also earned the No. 1 seed and right to host the 2017 ASC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
Martin Lopez opened scoring in the 19
th minute to put the Cru up 1-0.
Jose Larin followed that with an insurance goal in the 44
th minute to give UMHB a 2-0 lead. Neither team was able to score again, securing the 2-0 UMHB victory. Lopez and
Case Carnes led the Cru with two shots each. UMHB outshot the Cowboys 10-6 in the contest, putting five shots on frame.
Bryce Eichhorn earned the win for UMHB, making three saves in the shutout win. Trent Ivy took the loss for Hardin-Simmons, making three saves with two goals allowed.
UMHB returns to action in the regular-season finale on Sunday, October 29
th in a 1 p.m. match against Colorado College at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
