SAN ANTONIO, Texas– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Willamette 1-0 Saturday night in San Antonio to earn the programs first win in an NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
UMHB outshot the Bearcats 8-3 in the first half but neither team was able to score. The Cru had several scoring opportunities early in the second half. Case Carnes finally capitalized for the Cru, hitting in a rebound off a crossbar shot from Logan Keeler in the 70
th minute. Willamette found an offensive surge late in the second half, but UMHB goalkeeper Bryce Eichhorn made three second-half saves to preserve the 1-0 win.
Keeler and Martin Lopez led the Cru with four shots each while three other Crusaders added three. Eichhorn earned the win in the goal for UMHB, making four saves in the full 90-minute shutout. Quinn Nottage took the loss for Willamette, making nine saves with one goal allowed. UMHB took eight corner kicks in the contest and limited the Bearcats to just two.
UMHB returns to action on Sunday, November 12
th in a 7 p.m. match against sectional-host Trinity University in San Antonio. The Cru moved to 16-2-1 on the season while Willamette ends their 2017 campaign at 10-7-2.
