Men's Soccer edges Ozarks in overtime

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged University of the Ozarks 2-1 in an overtime competition Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in league play.
 
Daniel Santa scored the game's opening goal in the 51st minute to put UMHB up 1-0. Ozarks' Michael Luster followed that with an equalizer in the 64th minute off an assist from Matt Samaniego. Neither team was able to score again in regulation, forcing the game into a sudden-death overtime. Martin Lopez netted the game-winner in the 97th minute of play, finding the right side of the net off a cross from Case Carnes.
 
Carnes and Lopez led the Cru with five shots each while Julio Mar, Oscar Deleon and Daniel Santa each added three. UMHB outshot the Eagles 24-3 in the contest, putting 10 shots on goal. Luis Mena and Logan Valestin split time in the net for Ozarks. Mena played 56:30 with one goal allowed and three saves. Valestin took the loss, allowing one goal with four saves in 39:35 of action. Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the goal for UMHB, playing the final 51 minutes with one goal allowed.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 23rd in a 7:30 p.m. match against the University of Texas at Tyler.
