BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged University of the Ozarks 2-1 in an overtime competition Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Daniel Santa scored the game's opening goal in the 51
st minute to put UMHB up 1-0. Ozarks' Michael Luster followed that with an equalizer in the 64
th minute off an assist from Matt Samaniego. Neither team was able to score again in regulation, forcing the game into a sudden-death overtime.
Martin Lopez netted the game-winner in the 97
th minute of play, finding the right side of the net off a cross from
Case Carnes.
Carnes and Lopez led the Cru with five shots each while
Julio Mar,
Oscar Deleon and
Daniel Santa each added three. UMHB outshot the Eagles 24-3 in the contest, putting 10 shots on goal. Luis Mena and Logan Valestin split time in the net for Ozarks. Mena played 56:30 with one goal allowed and three saves. Valestin took the loss, allowing one goal with four saves in 39:35 of action.
Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the goal for UMHB, playing the final 51 minutes with one goal allowed.
