MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team closed play in the American Southwest Conference Crossover I with a 3-1 win over Belhaven University. UMHB improved to 11-4 on the season with a 7-0 record in conference, while the Blazers fell to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in ASC play.
UMHB used an 18-3 run to put the Blazers away in the first set, opening the match with a 25-10 first-set win. The Cru took the second set in similar fashion, propelling a 13-3 run from a 3-3 tie to take the set 25-9. UMHB led by as many as seven points in the third set before the Blazers hit an offensive surge. Belhaven came out of a timeout with three consecutive points and did not allow the Cru back-to-back points, stealing the third set with a 27-25 win. UMHB used three 3-0 runs to close the fourth set, winning 25-17 for a 3-1 match victory.
Miranda Klein led the Cru with 11 kills while
Corinne Novak added eight. UMHB hit 57 kills on 148 attacks for a .331 percentage.
Cory Jo Martin anchored UMHB's offense with 30 assists. Defensively, UMHB totaled 84 digs led by Martin with 14. UMHB added 11 service aces and three team blocks, limiting the Blazers to a .158 hitting percentage in the match.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, October 1
st in a 5 p.m. match at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
