Volleyball sweeps McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept McMurry University 3-0 Tuesday evening in Abilene. The win improved the Cru to 8-2 on the season and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Warhawks fell to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.
 
UMHB cruised to a 25-12 win in the first set. The Cru opened with a three-point run followed by a four-point streak for the Warhawks. UMHB responded with another run, scoring four unanswered points to take a 7-4 lead. The Warhawks kept the set close until the 12-9 mark when UMHB went on an 11-1 run to go up 23-10 and seal the win at 25-12. The Warhawks fought back, leading by as any as three in the second set until UMHB used a 4-0 run to take the lead at 18-17. UMHB pulled away with a four-point run at the 20-20 mark and sealed the win at 25-22. The third set played within three points until the Cru went on a 9-1 scoring run to regain a four-point lead. UMHB closed the set with kills from Ella Brunson and Jenci Seahorn to take the 25-23 set win over McMurry.
 
Katie Warden led the Cru with 12 kills, followed by Kaylie Vasil with nine. UMHB hit .197 in the match with Ella Brunson recording 20 assists on 36 total attacks. UMHB was also dominant at the service line, totaling nine aces with Alyssa Christiansen leading the Cru at three. Christiansen also led UMHB's defense with 16 digs, followed by Hannah Frasca with nine and Maddie Gillispie with eight.
 
UMHB returns to action in a pair of matches at home this weekend. The Cru faces LeTourneau University at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 16th before taking on ASC rival UT Dallas at noon on Saturday.
