BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept LeTourneau University Friday night in Belton. The Cru improved to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in league play while the Yellowjackets fell to an overall record of 5-3 and 1-2 in conference.
UMHB opened the match with a 10-1 run and had a lead as big as 15 before claiming the 25-15 win. The second set remained in back-and-forth play until the Cru slowly pulled away at the 12-9 mark with a kill by
Katie Warden followed by an ace by
Ella Brunson. UMHB held a steady lead to take the second set victory by five. The Yellowjackets fought back in the third set, using a four-point run to take just their second lead of the night. With the contested knotted up 6-6, the Cru used three blocks in a row to take the lead and never looked back, claiming the final set 25-16.
Kaylie Vasil led the Cru with 11 kills while Warden added 10. UMHB hit a .330 percentage, totaling 46 kills. The offense was anchored by Brunson with 26 assists. Defensively, the Cru totaled eight blocks led by
Dravyn Hurd and
Jenci Seahorn with four each.
Alyssa Christiansen led UMHB in digs with 18 while
Maddie Gillispie and
Hannah Frasca both added 15.
The Cru returns to action Saturday, September 17
th in a 12:00 P.M. contest against UT Dallas in Belton.
