BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team defeated University of the Ozarks 4-1 Thursday night in Belton. The Cru improved to 6-3-2 overall and 4-0-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 5-6-0 on the season and 1-2-0 in league play.
UMHB was first on the board in the 16
th minute when
Xjavier Martinez scored on a ricochet off his own original shot. UMHB's defense held the Eagles to just three first-half shots to go into the break ahead 1-0.
The Cru added a second score in the 52
nd minute when
Mason Munoz scored on a double-assist from
Sawyer Young and
Mason Crites.
Karsen Macias added the final two goals for UMHB, scoring both within a minute off assists from
Alex Bethke and Munoz. The Eagles added a score in the 68
th minute, but could not overcome the deficit, giving the Cru the 4-1 victory.
UMHB outshot the Eagles 25-9 with 10 on goal, led by
Ethan Dacaret with six shots and two on frame.
Hayden Owens played all 90 minutes in the net for the Cru, securing the win with four saves.
UMHB returns to action October 14
th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against UT Dallas in Belton.
