Men’s Soccer shuts out McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team clinched the American Southwest Conference regular-season title with a 2-0 shutout over McMurry University Saturday night in Abilene. The Cru improved to 9-3-2 on the season and 7-0-0 in American Southwest Conference play while the War Hawks fell to 2-7-5 overall and 1-3-2 in league action.

Mason Munoz scored the go-ahead goal for the Cru in the 11th minute off an assist from Karsen Macias. UMHB outshot the War Hawks 7-1 in the first half of action, allowing just one shot on frame. 

Munoz added his second goal of the contest off a Sawyer Young assist in the 63rd minute, giving the Cru it's 2-0 victory. UMHB's defense allowed the War Hawks just six second-half shots. 

UMHB outshot the War Hawks 12-7 in the contest, putting eight total shots on frame. Munoz led the Cru with three shots, followed by Alex Bethke and Ethan Dacaret with two each. Hayden Owens earned the win in the net for the Cru. Owens made four saves in the 90-minute shutout. 

UMHB returns to action Saturday, October 28th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against Concordia University Texas to close out regular season action. The Cru also secured the right to host the 2023 ASC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament November 2nd - 4th at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
