BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Sul Ross State University 3-0 Saturday morning in Belton. The Cru improved the 18-1 on the season while the Lobos fell to 5-10 overall.
The Cru jumped to a quick 4-2 lead to start the match. UMHB continued pushing with a seven-point run followed by five unanswered points to go up by 15. The Cru only allowed the Lobos only four more points and took set one 25-7. The Lobos fought back in the second set keeping the match within three points until the 8-8 mark when UMHB used a 7-1 run to go ahead by six. The Cru continued on to win the set 25-16.
The Lobos were first to score in the final set, but UMHB quickly pulled away with a 6-1 run followed by a 5-1 run to go up by eight. The Lobos only scored four more points before the Cru secured the sweep with a 25-14 victory.
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with 15 kills, finishing at a .556 hitting percentage. UMHB totaled 34 kills while hitting at a .370 percentage with only four errors. The Cru offense was anchored by
Ella Brunson with 30 assists. Defensively, Frasca led with 12 digs while
Maddie Gillispie added 11.
The Cru honored seniors,
Hannah Frasca,
Maddie Gillispie and
Sam Sommerfeld at the conclusion of the match. The 2023 senior class has an overall record of 75-13 and have qualified for three ASC Tournaments.
UMHB returns to action October 11
th in a 6:00 p.m. match against University of Dallas in Dallas.
