ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team dropped a 34-7 road decision to No. 6 Hardin-Simmons Saturday in Abilene. The loss dropped the Cru to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowboys improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Hardin-Simmons scored on the opening drive off a 44-yard run up the middle. The Cowboys tacked on another score at 5:44 left in the first quarter. Hardin-Simmons drove into the redzone again at the open of the second quarter but UMHB's defense held, forcing a field goal for a 17-0 Cowboy lead with 12:24 to play in the half. HSU drove again late but the Cru defense held them to another field goal, going into halftime with a 20-0 HSU margin.
Both offenses stalled in the third quarter until HSU closed the frame with a 12-play, 67-yard drive for a 27-0 lead. UMHB responded and marched down the field but an interception returned for another score made the deficit 34 points with 14:01 to play. UMHB found the end zone with 1:33 to play in the fourth quarter.
Seth Mouser found B.J. Stewart for an eight-yard touchdown, making the final score 34-7. UMHB went 63 yards on 12 plays in the drive with
Carson Horton and
Seth Mouser combining for five completions while
Asa Osbourn rushed for 13 yards.
Mouser went 16-for-30 for 101 yards and a score while Horton added four completions for 37 yards.
Asa Osbourn carried the ball 15 times, tallying 40 yards on the ground and added 39 yards off six receptions.
Defensively,
JJ Davis led the Cru with 12 tackles, six solo while
Trevor Tamplin added eight.
Benton McElree,
Aidan Ross and
Lance Robertson each added one sack while Ross had one forced fumble.
Logan Childs punted six times for 231 yards, averaging 38.5 yards per punt with a long of 44 yards and one punt pinned inside the 20. UMHB totaled 183 yards on offense, allowing the Cowboys 351 with just 136 passing yards.

th in a 2 p.m. homecoming contest against Texas Wesleyan University at Crusader Stadium in Belton.
