RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team closed a four-game series against the University of Texas at Dallas with a 7-3 loss to the Comets Saturday in Richardson. UMHB moved to 18-13 with the loss while the Comets improved to 26-4.
UT Dallas jumped an early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second and one in the third. UMHB got on the board in the fourth, scoring
Easton Cline off an RBI triple from
Trae Deck III. The Comets tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a six-run lead.
UMHB responded with single-run frames in the fifth and the sixth.
Carson Hagan scored on an error in the fifth inning before
Cameron Talburt earned a bases-loaded walk to score
Shane Melick in the sixth.
The 7-3 score held through the ninth and went down as a four-run victory for the Comets.
Easton Cline and
Alejandro Sanchez III tallied a team-high three hits each while four other Crusaders each added one. Deck and Talburt recorded the Cru's two RBI with three different Crusaders combining for runs scored.
Erick Roberts took the loss on the mound, throwing 1.1 innings with two hits and four runs allowed.
Reid Cromie put in two innings of work with
Isaac Brann,
Preston Blake and
Mason Semmelmann each throwing shutout appearances. UMHB totaled three runs on 10 hits while the Comets had seven runs on 10 hits with three errors.
UMHB returns to action on Tuesday, April 15
th in a 6 p.m. contest against Trinity University (Texas) at Red Murff Field in Belton.
