BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team fell to No. 9 Trinity University Tuesday evening in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 18-14 on the season while the Tigers improved to 27-7.
Trinity jumped to an early lead, scoring in the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead. UMHB blanked the Tigers in the fourth and added a solo run in the bottom of that inning, scoring Riley Bender on an RBI from Alejandro Sanchez III.
The Tigers responded with a trio of fifth-inning scores and added one run in the sixth, going ahead 9-1. UMHB tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Cameron Talburt on an error and Bender on an RBI single from Easton Cline. Trinity responded again with six runs in the seventh, ending the game in a 15-3 Tiger win.
Cline led the Cru with two hits while Bender and Austin Birkhoff each added one. Bender also scored two of the Cru's three runs with Sanchez and Cline each adding an RBI. UMHB threw eight pitchers in the contest with a combined seven strikeouts.
UMHB returns to action in a three-game series at Howard Payne University. The Cru will open the series on Wednesday, April 16th and follow with a Thursday doubleheader and Friday single.
