LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team opened American Southwest Conference play with a 2-0 win over LeTourneau University Thursday evening in Longview. The win improved the Cru to 4-1 on the season and opened them at 1-0 in conference play. LeTourneau moved to
Case Carnes scored the game-winning goal for the Cru in the 20
th minute, converting a penalty kick for the 1-0 lead. UMHB held that lead until the 52
nd minute when
Julio Mar scored off an assist from
Caleb Vandergriff for the 2-0 win.
Carnes led the Cru with four shots while
Seth Neveloff added three. UMHB outshot the YellowJackets 17-3, putting four shots on goal in the contest.
Javier Zaragoza earned the shutout win in the net for UMHB, making two saves in the full 90 minutes. Miguel Cabrera took the loss for LeTourneau, allowing two goals with two saves in the 90-minute contest.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 16
th in a 7:30 p.m. match at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
