MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged East Texas Baptist University 2-1 Saturday night in Marshall. The win improved the Cru to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 2-3-1 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Julio Mar opened scoring in the 13
th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to put UMHB up 1-0.
Jason Goodin followed that with an insurance goal in the 22
nd minute to put the Cru up by two. Dominic Wood added the Tigers' lone goal in the 85
th minute, ending the game with a 2-1 UMHB victory.
Goodin led the Cru with three shots followed by
Elijah Simpson and
Amani Colbert with two each. UMHB totaled 10 shots in the match, putting six on goal while the Tigers had seven shots with three on goal.
Javier Zaragoza earned the win in the goal for UMHB, playing the full 90-minute contest with one goal allowed and two saves. Bryant Botello took the loss for ETBU, allowing two goals with four saves.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, September 21
st in a 7:30 p.m. match against University of the Ozarks at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
