BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Schreiner University Saturday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 3-1 on the season while the Mountaineers fell to 2-2.
Jason Goodin opened scoring for the Cru, finding the back of the net off a ricocheted shot from
Martin Lopez for a 1-0 UMHB lead in the ninth minute.
Caleb Vandergriff added an insurance goal in the 17
th minute before
Josh Bruton put the Cru up by three, scoring off an assist from
Kyle Gleason in the 33
rd minute. UMHB held that line until the 88
th minute when Bishop Wood knocked in a cross from Antonio Cortes to put Schreiner on the board with one.
Goodin, Lopez and
Case Carnes each recorded a team-high two shots as UMHB outshot the Mountaineers 13-6 in the contest.
Bryce Eichhorn earned the win in the net for UMHB, making two saves in a shutout first half.
Javier Zaragoza played in relief, allowing one goal with one save. Brandon Anselmi took the loss for the Mountaineers, allowing three goals and making five saves.
UMHB returns to play on Thursday, September 14
th in a conference-opening 7:30 p.m. match at Letourneau University in Longview.
