Men’s Soccer beats Texas Lutheran 4-0 in home opener

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a commanding 4-0 win over Texas Lutheran University Friday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 2-1-0 while the Bulldogs fell to 1-1-1.
 
Case Carnes scored the game-winning goal in the ninth minute, finding the back of the net off a double assist from Julio Mar and Jason Goodin. Caleb Vandergriff quickly added an insurance goal for the Cru, heading in a ball over the goalkeeper off a Mathew Lay kick. UMHB scored the next two goals off converted penalty kicks. Caleb Almanza found the lower left corner in the 17th minute before Joel Loua converted his penalty kick with 25 seconds remaining in the contest.
 
Marcelo Gaitan led the Cru with three shots as UMHB outshot the Bulldogs 14-4 in the contest. Bryce Eichhorn earned the win in the goal for UMHB, making four saves in the full 90-minute shutout. Brendan Soto took the loss for the Bulldogs, playing 63 minutes with two saves. UMHB took six corner kicks in the game and limited the Bulldogs to just two shots each period.
 
The Cru returns to action Saturday, September 9th in a 7 p.m. match against Schreiner University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
